Birthday Spotlight: Anne Frank

Today marks what would be the 79th birthday of Anne Frank, or Annelies Marie Frank. Anne was born in 1929 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Anne moved with her family to Amsterdam where they subsequently went into hiding from the Nazi's. On August 4, 1944, the Frank family was discovered and shipped off to various concentration camps in Europe. Anne died with her sister at the age of 16 during a typhus epidemic at Bergen-Belsen just a few weeks before the camp was liberated by Allied forces. Anne's father, Otto Frank, published the diary (originally in Dutch) nearly two years after Anne's death. One of Anne's most famous quotes from her diary is that "In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart."
